Fertility Options for Lesbian Couples
Some of the treatments that we offer include sperm donation, insemination (IUI), in vitro fertilization (IVF) and egg donation.
Donor sperm can be used for IUI or intrauterine insemination. IUI is timed to a woman’s ovulation. In this procedure, donor sperm is placed near the top of the uterus. Women can choose to use sperm from an anonymous donor or from a known sperm donor. Sperm from a known donor must first undergo a six month quarantine before it can be safely used for IUI.
Co-IVF
This allows both partners in a same-sex female relationship to be active participants in the reproductive process. One partner provides an egg and the other partner carries the pregnancy. The partner providing the egg would take fertility medications and undergo a procedure called an egg retrieval. The eggs are then fertilized with a sperm from a sperm donor and a few days later an embryo, or embryos, is transferred into the uterus of the partner electing to carry the pregnancy. Couples may choose this route for various reasons including medical conditions which would prevent one from carrying a pregnancy or diminished fertility. In these situations, this fertility treatment allows both partners to have a special connection to the child.
