Reproductive Rights and Fertility Preservation

fertility preservation in New York

Access to sperm, embryo and egg freezing, also know as fertility preservation, is an important part of fertility care and an individual’s reproductive rights. There are many reasons why someone would need to freeze their fertility. Nevertheless, it all boils down to one basic fact: to preserve their fertility options for a later time in their life.

Medical cryopreservation

Early cancer detection and rapidly improving treatment options mean more patients are surviving their cancer diagnosis. But the treatments that saved their life, can interfere with the ability to conceive a baby once treatment ends. This raises a whole new set of issues.

Oncofertility is a field that bridges oncology (the study of cancer) and fertility care; thus providing good options for preserving fertility in patients that face fertility-threatening therapies.

Individuals can freeze their eggs or sperm, or embryos can be frozen using a partner or donor.

Social egg freezing

A woman’s fertility potential begins declining over the course of her lifetime, with a sharp decline around age 35. Numerous reasons, like a lack of a partner or education and career development, can push back the decision to start a family. Being able to freeze her eggs gives a woman the opportunity to maximize her fertility by freezing eggs at an earlier age, when her fertility potential is much higher.
